Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189)
The Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) is a permanent residency visa for skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer, state, or family member. It allows you to live and work anywhere in Australia.

To qualify for the Subclass 189 visa, you must:
Application Process
- Check your occupation: Ensure your occupation is on the MLTSSL.
- Obtain a skills assessment: Get a positive skills assessment from the relevant assessing authority.
- Take an English language test: Demonstrate at least Competent English proficiency.
- Calculate your points: Ensure you score at least 65 points on the points test.
- Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI): Lodge your EOI through SkillSelect.
- Wait for an invitation: If invited, you can then apply for the visa.
- Apply for the visa: Submit your visa application within 60 days of receiving the invitation.
Costs
- Primary applicant : AUD $4,045
- Additional applicant over 18 years: AUD $2,020
- Additional applicant under 18 years: AUD $1,015

Applying from India
As an Indian national, you can apply for the Subclass 189 visa from outside Australia. Ensure that you meet all eligibility criteria, including having your occupation on the MLTSSL, obtaining a positive skills assessment, demonstrating Competent English proficiency, and scoring at least 65 points on the points test. You must also lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) and receive an invitation to apply.

Higher points increase chances
While 65 points is the minimum, higher scores improve your chances of receiving an invitation. For example, in recent invitation rounds, the minimum cutoff for software engineers was 85 points. -

You can include your spouse or partner, dependent children, and other dependent relatives in your application. -
