Canada Federal Skilled Worker Program | Eligibility, Process & Requirements
The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is one of the three main economic immigration pathways managed under Canada’s Express Entry system. It is designed for skilled workers with foreign work experience who want to become permanent residents of Canada.
Federal Skilled Worker Program - Overview
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify under the FSWP, you must meet minimum requirements in:
1. Skilled Work Experience
- At least 1 year of continuous, full-time (or equivalent part-time) work experience in the past 10 years
- Must be in a National Occupation Classification (NOC) TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3
- Experience must be paid work
2. Language Proficiency
- Take an approved language test (e.g., IELTS General, CELPIP)
- Meet minimum CLB 7 in all four abilities (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking)
- Minimum : Secondary (high school) diploma
- Foreign education must be evaluated by an approved organization (e.g., WES) through an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA)
- Are currently authorized to work in Canada, and
- Have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer
- Must be admissible to Canada (no criminal record, no serious medical issues)
How Express Entry Works for FSWP
1. Create an Express Entry Profile
- Enter your details (language scores, education, work experience)
- Your profile gets a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score out of 1200
- If eligible, you are placed in the Express Entry pool
- If your CRS score is high enough, you may receive an ITA in a future draw
- After getting an ITA, you have 60 days to submit your permanent residency application
- Usually within 6 months from the date a complete PR application is submitted
